Jacob Rogers

Jacob Rogers is the Associate General Counsel at the Wikimedia Foundation. Jacob leads the litigation team at the Foundation, provides legal advice on copyright law and trust and safety matters, and oversees several workflows supporting legal advice to the Foundation.  

Jacob joined the Wikimedia Foundation at the end of 2014. Over the past decade, he has worked on many areas of the Foundation’s legal practice, including open source and free software licenses, responding to copyright and defamation complaints, and leading the Foundation’s international defensive litigation. Jacob has helped drive several major areas of legal work at the Foundation, including setting the Foundation’s litigation strategy, advising the organization on the law of AI and machine learning, leading an update of the Wikimedia Terms of Use in 2023, and managing the Foundation’s Digital Services Act compliance.

In his earlier work, Jacob prepared investigations for the US Senate on technology topics, including high-frequency and algorithmic stock trading as well as international banking and customer privacy. 

Jacob received his BA from the University of California, Berkeley, and his JD from Harvard Law School.
