We constantly talk about the importance of projects like Wikipedia, but have you ever thought about the hidden things that make it all possible?

The Wikimedia Foundation's Language team worked with a team from the University of the Basque Country and the Elhuyar Foundation to make it easier to translate Wikipedia articles from Spanish into Basque.

Mikhail Popov, a data scientist at the Wikimedia Foundation, recently led a workshop on how to interpret different types of statistical graphics and how to glean insights from them. The workshop is now available on a website for everyone to learn from.

The Wikimedia Foundation's Editing team announces the launch of visual diffs, which will let users visually review the changes made to Wikimedia sites without requiring knowledge of the wikitext markup language.

The Wikimedia Foundation’s Analytics team is releasing a monthly clickstream dataset. The dataset represents—in aggregate—how readers reach a Wikipedia article and navigate to the next. Previously published as a static release, this dataset is now available as a series of monthly data dumps for English, Russian, German, Spanish, and Japanese Wikipedias.

Wikimedia Foundation Engineer Santhosh Thottingal maintains and/or has engineered about 12 high-quality fonts used for writing his native language, Malayalam. We reached out to Thottingal to learn more about creating fonts, and his other projects related to digital access.
